Does the GX-Force have a Leak Check function?

Q: Does the GX-Force have a Leak Check function?

A: Yes. The GX-Force includes a Leak Check Mode, which is designed to help locate small combustible gas leaks. This feature allows the instrument to measure very low concentrations of combustible gas, making it useful for identifying leaks at fittings, valves, and connections.

Q: Is Leak Check Mode available on all GX-Force units?

A: No. Leak Check Mode is only enabled by default on GX-Force units equipped with a MOS sensor or an LEL + TC sensor combination, since these configurations support the high sensitivity combustible gas detection needed for leak detection.

For GX-Forces without these sensor configurations, Leak Check Mode will not appear as an option at startup. In those cases, the feature can be enabled using the GX-Force PC configuration program and an IrDA communication cable. Once enabled through the software, Leak Check Mode will then be available for selection when the instrument powers on.

Leak Check Mode can be enabled on any version of the GX-Force with LEL at the customer’s request at the time of order.

Q: How does the Leak Check mode work?

A: Leak Check Mode changes the instrument’s operations so it can detect very small combustible gas concentrations, typically in ppm (parts per million) instead of standard %LEL readings.

Basic operation:

1.Select Leak Check Mode
When powering on the GX-Force, select LEAK from the Mode Select’s screen.

2. Instrument startup The GX-Force performs its startup sequence and activates the internal pump.

3. Sampling gas The internal pump continuously draws air through the inlet or probe while the instrument monitors combustible gas levels.

4. High sensitivity display The GX-Force displays combustible gas readings in ppm ranges, allowing the user to detect very small leaks.

5. Locate the leak As the probe is moved around fittings, valves, or piping, the GX-Force will show increasing readings when combustible gas is detected, helping the user pinpoint the leak source. GX-Force-Leakcheck.png

Q: Can the leak detection range be adjusted?

A: Yes. In Leak Check Mode, the display range can be adjusted to different sensitivity levels, such as:

  • 500 ppm
  • 1,000 ppm
  • 2,000 ppm
  • 5,000 ppm (default)

To change the Leak Check mode range, press AIR + POWER/MODE buttons until the desired range is displayed.

Adjusting the range helps the user focus on small leaks or larger leak sources depending on the inspection needs.

Q: When should Leak Check Mode be used?

A: Leak Check Mode is typically used when inspecting:

  • Gas piping systems
  • Valve and regulators
  • Flanges and fittings
  • Gas connections in industrial facilities

This mode is especially useful for finding small combustible gas leaks that may not be easily detected using standard %LEL monitoring.

Summary

The GX-Force Leak Check Mode provides a high-sensitivity combustible gas detection function that allows users to locate leaks quickly and accurately by monitoring ppm-level gas concentrations while using the instrument’s internal pump to sample air around potential leak sources.
