Materials Handler I (Part-Time Person)

Applications Engineer

RKI Instruments, Inc., an innovative gas detection company located in Union City, is seeking a focused individual with strong technical and interpersonal communication skills to provide our customers with technical support for sales and service of both RKI Instruments portable and continuous monitoring gas detection instruments.


  1. Purpose and Scope

    The Applications Engineer is responsible for the product applications engineering function at the company. The Applications Engineer is a key member of the company's sales and marketing efforts and interfaces with many personnel and departments within the company as well as outside sales representatives, distributors, and end users of our products.

  2. Responsibilities

    Receiving and making telephone calls as well as emails relating to sales, applications and technical support for the company's products and services. Timely follow up is essential. Sales efforts include prospect qualification, solving needs and generating and following up on sales quotations. Also will conduct product training both at regular in-house training sessions, through webinars and in some cases at customer locations. The Applications Engineer is also expected to make outside sales calls and /or technical applications support as needed.


  1. Education and Training

    Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering from a four (4) year University is strongly preferred. Other technical degrees may be considered. Experience in sales, customer service and/or support and problem solving is desirable but not required. General computer proficiency is required in either PC or Macintosh platforms; preferably in both. In addition, strong interpersonal communication skills (both verbal and written) are required.

  2. Technical Requirements

    Applications Engineer's function involves a thorough understanding of the customer's requirements, analyzing all pertinent data and solving the customer's needs. The ideal candidate will also have an initial fundamental, and later, thorough understanding of gas detection equipment and gas characteristics. The Applications Engineer will require a proficient working knowledge of gas detection equipment, sensors, basic electronic signals, as well as the physical properties of a variety of toxic, combustible and inert gases and compounds commonly found in industry



Materials Handler I (Part-Time Person)
This person is responsible for assisting in accurately pulling kits for outsourcing, production and shipping. In addition, they are also responsible for assisting in Receiving and stocking incoming parts, Cycle Counting, Processing material documents in the computer, Practicing FIFO material handling; responsible for helping in every aspect of Material Handling. This is an entry-level position.

This person MUST be a team player, willing to help wherever help is needed within the Materials Department. The position entails ability to multi-task and prioritize effectively.


A. Education and Training

  • A High School Diploma
  • 0 - 2 years of related work experience
  • Computer proficient

B. Technical Requirements

  • Materials Handler must possess the skills needed to perform the duties outlined under responsibilities; these include math skills, manual forklift operation, ten-key, and computer knowledge.
